LEARN HOW TO SKATE SKI on February 8th

The Sawtooth Society is hosting a free skate skiing clinic at the Park Creek Nordic trails, 6 miles west of Stanley on Highway 21.  Come learn how to master the fast, exciting art of skate skiing under the incredible Sawtooth Mountains! There will be a beginner and intermediate class offered, followed by a chili dinner and contra dancing!

Don’t own a pair of skate skis?  No problem!  Backwoods Mountain Sports will rent skis, boots and poles at the highly discounted price of $10.  Contact Kelly Conde at dalton@sawtoothsociety.org or (208) 994-1654 to reserve a pair of skis.  The skis will be available by reservation in Stanley the day of the clinic.

Ski Clinic Schedule:

9:45 a.m.: Beginner skiers meet at the Park Creek Nordic trails.  Get rental skis and suit up!

10 a.m. – Noon:  Beginner skate skiing – for those who have never skate skied before, this is a great place to start!  Learn the basic technique on gentle terrain.

12:45 p.m.: Intermediate skiers meet at the Park Creek Nordic trails.

1 p.m. – 3 p.m.:  Intermediate skate skiing – For those looking to hone their skills, join the afternoon group for technique work and a group ski.

5:30 pm:  Chili feed at The Sluice in the Stanley Town Square. Come warm up with $5/bowl chili at Stanley’s newest restaurant!

7:00- 10:00 pm:  Contra dance!  After a day spent in the elements, what better way to loosen those muscles than contra dancing!?  The dance is sponsored by Mountain Mamas, Jerry’s Country Store and The Stanley Town Square and will have a live band as well as a caller to teach you the moves.  The dance will be held at The Stanley Town Square and is for ages 12 and up.
