Successful First Annual Sawtooth Ski Clinic
Despite nearly a foot of fresh snow on the ground and Highway 21 closed, the Sawtooth Society’s First Annual Sawtooth Ski Clinic was a great success!
Eleven weather-hardy folks participated in the clinic. Some arriving on snowmobiles, others driving from Boise via Sun Valley to get there, and still others spending an hour digging themselves out of their snowy driveway just to make the clinic.
Though the range of abilities was wide in the morning group (some had been skate skiing for several winters while others hadn’t been on a pair of skis in 30 years) the beginner lesson was fun for everyone involved. And by the end of the two-hour session, all nine participants significantly improved their skate skiing skills and, more importantly, were officially hooked on the sport and ready for more.
As snowflakes continued to blanket the ground, skiers arrived for the intermediate lesson. Under the incredible instruction of Sparky Easom, participants spent the afternoon refining their skate skiing technique. The lesson ended with time to practice newly acquired skills while skiing through fresh powder.
The day wrapped up at The Sluice over a delicious bowl of chili. Within the warm confines of the new restaurant, all reflected on the fun day. And outside, the snow continued to fall.
The Sawtooth Society would like to extend a huge thanks to all who made this event possible! Thanks to Backwoods Mountain Sports for providing skate skis, The Sluice for the tasty chili, Tony Driscoll and the Sawtooth Ski Club for grooming in extremely difficult conditions, and Sparky Easom for an awesome lesson!
