Take Comfort in the SNRA

Sawtooth Society | SNRA IdahoHowever one feels about yesterday’s election, scan the state of Idaho and one can find areas where great legislation by great Idaho politicians produced great results.  The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is one of those places.

Over 40 years ago Public Law 92-400 was enacted to protect the amazing peaks, valleys and streams of the Sawtooths and White Clouds.  Today, because of that piece of legislation, one can step onto a trail and back in time.  There are still a few swaths of land out there where the natural still prevail.  Where the primordial still rule.  Where all is quiet and peaceful and powerful and real. The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is one of those places.

Walk down the dusty roads of Stanley, stop, listen.  Take comfort. The Sawtooths are still there. The elk still wander.  The trees still stand.  This is still an area to come to and reflect and draw strength.   It shows that some things can’t be ruled or ruined.  At least not entirely.  Some places are too great to not be loved.  Some places can bring the most disenchanted person to a state of joy and awe.  The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is one of those places.

It is here.  And because of the love of all Idahoans, past and present, it will stay here for years to come.
