Give the gift of the Sawtooth Society

December 17, 2012, Stanley, IDAHO — Many Idahoans and Idaho visitors are awestruck by the beauty and recreation the Sawtooth National Recreation Area offers. As a non-profit committed to enhancing everyone’s Sawtooth NRA experience, the Sawtooth Society offers memberships, programs and volunteer opportunities as well as many more engaging prospects to enjoy the Sawtooth NRA.

As the end of the 40th anniversary of the Sawtooth NRA as well as the 15th anniversary for the Sawtooth Society draws to a close, becoming a member of the Sawtooth Society can be a gift that gives all year-round this holiday season. Being part of a team of individuals who preserve, protect and enhance the beautiful Sawtooth NRA is a gratifying commitment. This holiday season members can be reminded of their commitment to this special area with two new partnerships with James Bourret Fine Art Photography and Matt Leidecker, the author of several respected hiking guides for Idaho including his latest guide, “Exploring the Sawtooths—A Comprehensive Guide.”

James Bourret Fine Art Photography, based in Ketchum, is launching a series of limited edition Sawtooth NRA images commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Sawtooth NRA.  Prints are available in two sizes, and a donation will be made from the sale of each print to help fund the Sawtooth Society.  There are 10 prints and each will be limited to 250 photographs. Each image is individually signed, numbered and contains the Society’s goat watermark in the lower left corner.

“My love of this rare place of quiet, peace and beauty motivates me as a photographer,” said Bourret. “I’d like to give back a little of what this place has given me. The work of the Sawtooth Society is incredibly important in preserving these qualities, which we so direly need now and in the future. The work to protect natural and wilderness environments is not done. It did not end with the Wilderness Act or the creation of specific Wilderness Areas or National Recreation Areas. Our remaining areas of natural beauty, which are so important to providing us with a spiritual connection and reverence for the earth, need constant, ongoing protection. Organizations like the Sawtooth Society do that, and need our support and funding if they are to continue doing their work.”

Leidecker, the author of a number of hiking guides for Idaho and “Exploring the Sawtooths—A Comprehensive Guide” is an exciting guidebook covering the entire Sawtooth range with the detail and accuracy he is known for in his other books, including his Sun Valley Guide. The Sawtooth Society is pleased to be the front-page sponsor for Leidecker’s guidebook, “Exploring the Sawtooths -A comprehensive Guide.”  This brand new waterproof guidebook covers every trail in the range, and includes information on mountain biking, scrambling, climbing as well as history, geology and wildflowers.

Leidecker has created a special Sawtooth Society ordering webpage, and he will personally autograph each book and donate 20 percent of all sales from the site www.mattlphoto.com/ss.html.
